Schools
Beginning with pre-school through post-graduate studies, Dearborn offers a wide selection of educational opportunities at local public and private schools, colleges and universities.
Approximately 18,000 students attend one of Dearborn's 33 public schools which are accredited by the North Central Commission on Accreditation.
Beginning in the fall of 2009, Dearborn Public Schools will offer full-day kindergarten throughout the district. Since 2002 all elementary and middle schools have achieved Adequately Yearly Progress as required by No Child Left Behind and the State of Michigan.
Innovative Programs
High School students in Dearborn are saving money and earning college credits by taking advantage of the Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement programs. With nearly one-in-five juniors and seniors taking classes at Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) and the University of Michigan-Dearborn, the district has more dual enrolled students than any other district in Michigan.
The high school curriculum is aligned with new rigorous state standards and also allows for magnet programs offering math and science, technology, culinary arts, medicine, multimedia production and other special class concentrations.
Partnered with Henry Ford Community College and Henry Ford Hospital, the district is one of only a select few in Michigan to have an Early College program for the medical field. Students in the program can graduate with both a high school diploma and associate's degree in five years.
Preparing for the Future
HFCC serves more than 25,000 students annually, offering more than 100 university transfer and associate degree programs, including the largest registered nurse program in Michigan.
Located next door to HFCC is the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a population of more than 8,500 students enrolled in a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Ranked in the top 5 best master's level universities in the Midwest (America's Best Colleges 2008, U.S. News & World Report), the campus is home to the Henry Ford Estate and a wealth of prime natural resources.
